Parable of the Vineyard Workers - 21 Sep 14
Fr Jude Shayo, A.J.
In the Gospel there is the Parable of the Vineyard Workers hired late. This story evokes many feelings and often much conversation because of the issue of "fairness." Why should a worker who worked the whole day get paid the same wages as a worker who worked one hour?
When it comes to God's mercy and love, it's not a matter of fairness. One who came to God early in life isn't given more than the one who came to God later in life.
Our God is so generous as to offer us salvation regardless of how little we have paid our share of service and loyalty to His promises.
When you come right down to it, most, if not all, of sin is about worrying more about ourselves and our relation to others than keeping our souls and being focused on God.
Lord help me always to be willing to be generous. Open my eyes for opportunities to share myself and fill the cup of someone who may be needing a full portion but who can only give an hour. Help me to ever judge by what is fair but give as You would!
