Father Answers Your Questions

Question:  I would like to donate my body for medical research after I die.  How would donating my body affect a Catholic burial Mass/service?

Answer:  As long as you have a living will and express your intention where your body goes when you die, your family could request a prayer service before they dispose your body in the hospital.

There will be no funeral mass because your mortal body will be transported to a morgue facility or medical school's freezer after the prayers are said.

A memorial mass may be held in the  church without the presence of your mortal body.  This is the same for someone whose remains were cremated.
