Diocese of Savannah


The Diocese of Savannah was established July 19, 1850. At that time, its territory extended over the entire state of Georgia, and included only six parishes, with a total of about 5,000 Catholics. After the Civil War, the Benedictines and other religious communities established missions in the area.


United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB)

Father Jack Durkin is Pastor of St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Duluth, Georgia.  A native of Darby, PA, he grew up in North Carolina, graduated from Wake Forest University and received a master’s degree in teaching from UNC-Chapel Hill.  He taught and coached in Macon and Athens, Georgia before entering the seminary.  He was ordained for the Archdiocese of Atlanta in 1999.
